Rotator Cuff Injuries | Calgary Acupuncture

Hello Calgary Acupuncture Enthusiasts!

calgary acupuncture clinicThe rotator cuff is an intricate structure of muscles that attach the arm to the shoulder and give your arm the full range of motion it needs to do all the fun stuff we as humans get to do with our upper limbs. The downside to the rotator cuff is its susceptibility to injury with repetitive movements, such as throwing a baseball or scrubbing your cabinets. Rotator cuff injuries can also be quite finicky as sometimes they only rear their ugly heads with a very specific movement, so it can go unnoticed for longer than the average injury. This can then lead to a slower recovery time if scar tissue has built up or if muscle atrophy has started.

Calgary Acupuncture | Cochrane AcupunctureSports Medicine Acupuncture is an excellent and highly effective treatment for rotator cuff injuries of all sorts, from repetitive strains, dislocations, tendonitis or just poor range of motion through the shoulder joint. Sports medicine acupuncture not only targets the nervous system that activates each muscle of the rotator cuff, but also stimulates the areas of the brain and spinal cord that are associated with those muscle and tendon groups. This allows for faster and more efficient healing of damaged tissues and improved proprioception (aka brain-body connection) and thus reduces the impact of the rotator cuff injury on future performance in the shoulder.

With orthopedics and pain being her primary specialty, Dr. Christianne Parrott utilizes more than just Sports Medicine Acupuncture when dealing with sports injuries. She has many different acupuncture, massage, cupping, gua sha, and moxibustion techniques as well as the use of Chinese herbal medicine in order to ensure the best possible result in the treatment of a rotator cuff or other musculoskeletal injury. She uses several types of acupuncture to treat sports injuries: including Meridian Test (M-Test) acupuncture, which is a Japanese style, Sports Medicine Acupuncture, IMS or Dry-Needling, trigger point acupuncture, neuromuscular acupuncture, and more. Since 2009 she has continued with specialized studies in sports medicine, orthopedics, pain therapies as well as other aspects of Traditional and Classical Chinese Medicine.

External herbal therapies have become an increasing passion for Dr. Christianne. As an equestrian she is no stranger to injuries and has found nothing to be more effective at preventing a giant bruise, swelling and pain than her beloved “Trauma formula” (it can also be used well after the bruising has set in). She used it only yesterday to treat her foot after it got stomped on by her 1300lb horse who got a little frightened for no reason, jumped straight in the air and landed on Christianne’s beloved foot. She applied the herbal compress within a few hours of the injury and has next to no bruising and no pain after the first few hours (unfortunately she didn’t have time to make a video or take pictures … this time). She has used this same formula to help patients and friends with a variety of injuries from broken ankles, 3rd degree sprains to swollen hands from a cat attack and is always happily impressed with the amount of relief achieved even after just one application of the herbs.
